Chemical Engineer
ABOUT THE JOB
Founded in 2021, Dutch startup SeaO₂ works to combat climate change and reduce atmospheric carbon. We use our patented technology to achieve large scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) from the ocean using an electrochemical approach.
The ocean has 150 times more carbon than the air which makes the oceanic carbon capture more efficient compared to direct air capture (DAC). By ocean CDR, we remove CO₂ indirectly from the atmosphere and battle ocean acidification. To meet the net zero carbon goals of 2050, sustainable, scalable, inexpensive technologies that fit in an electrified industry and have a small footprint are needed for carbon capture. Currently, such technologies do not exist. At SeaO₂ we aim to change that.
Currently, we are building a 25 t/yr pilot installation for performing R&D work at the Visafslag (Scheveningen) in the Netherlands. Key objectives are to increase process efficiency and to reduce total energy consumption. Based on our findings, we are designing and building our demonstrator with a 2500 tCO2/yr removal capacity in 2027, to be developed in Groningen.
We are looking for a fulltime Chemical Engineer with 3-5 years industrial experience or an (industrial) pHd to join our team.
Responsibilities
The chemical engineer works on the project development of downstream carbon dioxide utilization processes, in particular CO2 to chemicals.
This includes technology scouting, development and generation of IP in collaboration with external parties (industrial and academic partners and knowledge institutions).
Techno-economic analysis of downstream utilisation technologies, identification of development opportunities.
Design and analysis of process flow diagrams, equipment selection and mass & heat balance development
Setting up prototypes, experimental protocols and performing tests
Identification of potential partners for consortia, networking and partnership building.
-
Development of project proposals together with external partners including subsidy requests.
Requirements
Minimum of Masters degree in chemical engineering or related discipline (bio-) chemical or electrochemical.
3-5 years relevant industrial experience or a relevant (industrial) pHd.
Experience with carbon dioxide utilisation technologies (conversion to chemicals).
Enthusiastic team player.
Process modeling & flowsheeting expertise.
Develop industrial partnerships and consortia.
Network in the industry, academia and knowledge institutes.
In possession of an (unlimited) European work permit, located in the Netherlands.
English proficiency, both verbally and in writing for generating reports.
Proven communication skills and with a passion for sustainability.
